Account Security

Passwords

You can change your password by clicking on your name on the top of the screen after logging in. You will need to use at least eight characters and include three out of the four types: capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers, or symbols.

Two-factor authentication

You can add an extra layer of security to your account with two-factor authentication (2FA). If this setting is enabled, then after you enter your password, GRITS will also ask you to enter a one-time 6-digit code that you receive through an authenticator app (Google, Microsoft, Bitwarden, 2FAS, etc.). You can also adjust this setting to only ask for the one-time code once every 30 days (for each device that you use to login to GRITS). You can access and activate 2FA in GRITS by clicking on your name on the top of the screen after logging in. Enabling 2FA is completely optional although encouraged for Primary users at an institution.

Inactivity timeout

If you would like users at your institution to be logged out of your GRITS account following a period of inactivity (30 minutes, one hour, one day, one week, or one month), please contact us at support@gogrits.org and we will establish this setting for you.
